with Judy Kitt, President of the Foundation for Mind-Being Research
In the inaugural episode of the Soul Unique Podcast, host Anu Peter Brandt speaks with Judy Kitt, President of the Foundation for Mind-Being Research. They discuss the importance of forging a unique spiritual path, Judy’s experiences transitioning from Catholicism to Shamanism, and the significance of maintaining a connection with the divine. Judy shares profound insights into her spiritual journey, impactful books, and remarkable experiences with FMBR. In this episode, she also offers practical advice for those seeking a deeper spiritual connection and navigating their own unique paths.
NOTES
The Foundation for Mind-Being Research (FMBR) was founded by Bill Gough and Virginia Cates.
Judy received initiation rites (and, as a result, is a “Mesa Carrier”) from elders of the Q’ero Nation and studied shamanism practices through the Four Winds Society (thefourwinds.com) with Alberto Villoldo. The Q'ero Nation refers to a Quechua-speaking indigenous community living in the Peruvian Andes mountains, often considered to be the last direct descendants of the Inca people, and known for preserving their ancient traditions and their deep connection to nature.
Judy mentions at the very beginning of our conversation that she is currently studying The Bhagavad Gita. The Bhagavad Gita is a Hindu scripture, dated to the second or first century BCE, which forms part of the epic poem Mahabharata. It is a synthesis of various strands of Indian religious thought (from Wikipedia).

• Shadow Work, developed by psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, is a process of exploring and accepting the parts of yourself that you've repressed or ignored. It can help you understand yourself better, improve relationships, and learn healthy coping mechanisms.
PLEASE NOTE
After our conversation, Judy told me she wanted to make it clearer that her experiences with Catholicism were and are, of course, her own. She told me she knows a lot of people who have had beautiful, nurturing experiences growing up in the church. Of course, as we discussed, that was not her experience and she acknowledges that many people share her challenging experiences but she also recognizes that others do not. She wanted to be sure that came through.

(Book: The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto)
• Hawkins scale - Dr. David R. Hawkins’ “map of consciousness” lays out the entire spectrum of consciousness, from the lower levels of shame, guilt, apathy, fear, anger, and pride; to courage, acceptance, and reason; all the way up to the more expanded levels of love, ecstasy, peace, and enlightenment. These higher energy fields are a carrier wave of immense life energy. Using a unique muscle-testing method, Dr. Hawkins conducted more than 250,000 calibrations during 20 years of research to define a range of values, attitudes, and emotions that correspond to levels of consciousness. First written about by Dr. Hawkins in his book, Power vs. Force, it is more deeply explained in his subsequent book, The Map of Consciousness Explained: A Proven Energy Scale to Actualize Your Ultimate Potential.

METHODOLOGIES, CONCEPTS, and PEOPLE MENTIONED
• Reiki - Reiki is a complementary health approach where practitioners place their hands lightly on or above a person, becoming a conduit for beneficial energy to facilitate a natural healing response in the person's body. Energy healing in general, is a powerful, natural system that unlocks the flow of vital energy, restoring and balancing the energetic systems in all living things. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word Rei, which means “universal life,” and Ki, which means “energy.” It is believed that a person’s “ki” (energy) should be strong and free-flowing. When ki (also “qi” or “chi”) is strong and free, a person’s body and mind are in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked, it can lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. The concept of an energetic life force is found in most of the ancient cultures of the world. In India, it is called prana; in China, chi; in Japan, ki; for Native Americans, the Great Spirit. For all these cultures and others as well, the concept of life force is or was central to their forms of medicine and healing.
